SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake County has to cut some checks today after some employees with the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office received shorted paychecks.
Chris Jones, who works for the county, said 305 employees received shorted paychecks on Thursday.
“So apparently there was a glitch with the new system at the sheriff’s office,” Jones said.
The system removed all overtime that employees had accrued since January, which in turn made it look like they had been overpaid for the last 11 months. What looked like extra pay was then removed, causing the shorted paychecks.
Jones said, on average those 300 employees were shorted $194, but the most an employee was shorted was $1,300.
The county has solved the hiccup in the system. It is cutting paper checks on Monday to pay back its employees. Jones said employees have already started to pick up those checks.
