SALT LAKE CITY — Utah remains in the top ten states for growth in the latest census numbers. This year, over 35,000 residents moved here since July 2022, according to the Census Bureau.
Utah saw a 1.1% population growth increase in 2023. South Carolina came in at the top of the list for population growth in 2023 with a 1.7% increase.
One key reason for the growth is more people moved to Utah than the number of babies born in the state. Also, the number of locals who died dropped 10% from the previous year.
According to the Census Bureau, on July 1, 2022, Utah’s population was 3,381,236. One year later, the population was totaled at 3,417,734.
A report by the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute at the University of Utah shows the state’s population could reach 3.8 million people by 2030. By 2060, the institute projected the population of the state to reach 5.4 million.
