WEST VALLEY, Utah — Three students were injured in an Orbeez pellet gun shooting outside of Granger High School on Tuesday.
Ben Horsley, Granite School District’s chief of staff, confirmed those injured were Granger High students during a press conference on Tuesday afternoon.
The students were shot with an Orbeez pellet gun at “close range” and were left with welts. The injuries were minor and superficial, however, Horsley said.
Horsley said that police took two suspects and were questioning them. They’re both students but Horsley didn’t confirm which school they attend.
The suspects and victims are all minors.
According to Horsley, a Granite School District officer witnessed the entire altercation. The officer saw that the “weapon” involved was an Orbeez gun, which is why the school didn’t initiate a closure or lockdown.
Horsley said it was “very clear” there was no active threat to the school or general student body.
The officer saw the suspects flee in a car and radioed the situation in. The West Valley City Police Department stopped the suspects near 2400 South and Bangerter and took them in without incident.
Horsley said the suspects could face possible criminal charges including assault and trespassing.
An investigation continues.
