SALT LAKE CITY — The number one event in the fashion universe was held last night — the Met Gala.
‘Met’ — for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City; and ‘Gala’ which is supposed to mean a party. But in this case, gala stands for Gaudy and Ludicrous Attire.
At its most basic the event is this: Vogue Magazine invites this year’s crop of A-List celebrities to starve. Then, squeeze into the most ridiculous clothing imaginable. Your limo arrives, you order your servants to fluff your outfit and then pose for the paparazzi.
Last night there was one star poured into her dress so tight, that two men had to lift her by the elbows and carry her up the stairs so she could preen for the cameras.
The ever-present Kim Kardashian was corseted so tight that her liver must have been in her throat. I swear to you — the big takeaway from this event is that Kim Kardashian managed to show up with a 14-inch waist.
This is what counts as an “achievement” in the superficial world of high fashion. The goal is to get noticed. And Utahns were not. I didn’t see any Utahns on the guest list.
So I guess we’ll stick to our polo shirts and yoga pants. Save the $75,000 for a single ticket. And like Cinderella scrubbing the floor, dream of next year.
