American Fork car crash on I-15 ends in fatality

AMERICAN FORK, Utah — One person is dead following an early Sunday morning American Fork car crash.
Department of Public Safety said in a press release that a man driving a White Ram 1500 slammed head-on into a crash attenuator near the Pioneer Crossing off-ramp from NB I-15 at about 12:50 a.m.
DPS reported that the Ram caught fire after crashing. The vehicle was reported to be engulfed in flames when emergency personnel arrived on scene.
The male driver was extricated after the flames were quickly put out. DPS reported that the driver was flown in serious life-threatening condition to the hospital.
Hospital staff confirmed to authorities the driver’s injuries were not survivable.
All northbound traffic was reported to be shut down for up to two hours, the traffic was diverted off 500 East.
DPS said the reason for the crash is unknown at this time.
