SALT LAKE CITY — Utah leaders took another big step toward hosting another Olympic Games, namely the 2034 Winter Games, in Salt Lake City.
The Utah committee met privately for the first time Wednesday. They presented their plan to all the members of the International Olympic Committee.
Fraser Bullock, president of the Salt Lake City-Utah Committee for the Games, said that even though the meeting was technical, committee members received a warm reception. He added their presentation to the full IOC was years in the making.
“We believe we’re in excellent shape,” Bullock said. He explained that until they take the vote, they are “absolutely, 100% focused on every element of our bid, and making sure we do the absolute best we can.”
The next big step comes on July 24, which is Utah’s Pioneer Day. That’s when the IOC will officially vote on whether to award the 2034 Winter Games to Salt Lake City.

“We’re a great candidate to host the world” in 2034, Bullock said. That’s the bottom-line message the Utah bid team is trying to convey leading up to that vote.
If Utah is awarded the 2034 Winter Games, it will be its second time as host after the successful 2002 Winter Games.
