SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City just had its warmest October on record, averaging a daily temperature of 62.4 degrees.
KSL Meteorologist Matt Johnson said this average beats the previous record by about 2 degrees.
“That beats the old record of 60.5 degrees Fahrenheit back in 2015. The second warmest was 60.0 in 1988.”
The start of the month was especially warm in Salt Lake City. The first 15 days were at or above 80 degrees.
It wasn’t just Salt Lake City hitting record averages, however. Cites all over the state were feeling the heat.
“We saw other places. St. George 69.9, Provo 61 degrees, Fillmore 60.7. All these cities clocking their all-time warmest,” said Johnson.
What does the warmest October on record mean for this winter?
Johnson also said just because we had a warm start to our Autumn it doesn’t mean we’ll see less snow this winter.
“We had a slow start for the 2022 and 2023 winter season and that actually ended up being our snowiest in the mountains of Utah. So a lot of things can still happen,” said Johnson.
We’ve already seen some snowfall in the mountains and canyons this season and we could get more on Sunday.
