Criminal charges filed after explosion at Lehi apartment complex

PROVO, Utah — A man is facing criminal charges in connection to an explosion at Lehi Tech Apartments in October.
According to charging documents, on Oct. 22, 2024, 57-year-old Donghee Hee Kang, “put gas bottles onto a cooking pot that had been placed in the bathroom and turned on the burner. The pot also contained an open bottle of rubbing alcohol. The result was an explosion that damaged their apartment, including windows and door frames.”
Two people received minor injuries and 90 families were evacuated due to the explosion in Lehi.
Police said the suspect had experienced a mental health crisis KSL.com reported. That has not been further specified.
Kang was charged Thursday with aggravated arson, a first-degree felony.
