Tips on Draceana Care | KSL Greenhouse

There are many different species of Draceana. Coming in as an popular houseplant, it’s important to know specific characteristics of Draceana care.

The first species of mention is the Dracaena fragrans otherwise known as fragrant dracaena and corn plant. This plant, native to tropical Africa is a popular, durable and easy-to-grow indoor houseplant. The corn plant contains sword-shaped, bright green leaves that typically grow to 2’ long and 3” wide indoors in containers, but may reach 3’ long in outdoor locations

This plant is easily grown in containers as an indoor foliage plant. Corn plant typically thrives in a consistently moist, organically rich, well-drained soils in part shade. Use a loamy, well-drained potting soil. This plant is best sited in bright indirect light locations protected from significant periods of direct sun and drafts.

Dracaena marginata

Dracaena marginata is a very popular houseplant that typically grows to 6’ tall or more over time unless pruned shorter. It features perhaps the narrowest leaves of the various species of dracaena sold in commerce.

Draceana marginata is commonly known as dragontree. This seasonal bloomer can tolerate a wide range of indoor temperatures. Place dragontree in bright indirect light locations protected from direct sun and drafts. The leaves on the dragontree are deep green with narrow reddish edges.

While dragontree tolerates low light, Foliage of this plant loses best color in too much shade, so keep that in mind when practicing Draceana care.
