SYRACUSE – Police are trying to determine what happened in a mysterious death where a man was found in a backyard in Syracuse.  They say it’s possible he’d been there for days and he appears to have died while hiding from the police.

The body was found by two children who went into their backyard to play on May 29th.  Investigators say the kids saw something under the deck.

“When the kids were outside playing, they noticed something that was different and went in and got mom,” says Syracuse Police Detective Erin Behm.

Officers arrived at the home and found the body of Levi Anderson, 28.  Behm says the body was well-hidden so the family didn’t notice it.  How did he get there?  Behm says it might be connected to a crime that happened in Syracuse on May 24th.

“We had a theft at a Walmart call at 5 p.m., and there were two suspects.  One of which took off in a car, the other one took off through the neighborhood,” she says.

Anderson reportedly matches the description of the suspect who fled on foot.  They believe Anderson chose that very hiding spot in that backyard to evade police.

Behm says, “We didn’t chase him, or anything, but we were looking through the neighborhood and we never located him.”

However, investigators have no idea how Anderson died.  The Utah Medical Examiner’s Office will have to determine the cause of death.

“It is so weird,” says Behm.  “There are no signs of any trauma or anything like that.”
