UTAH– Snow will continue throughout the day and keep up through the evening around 5 p.m. Here’s what you need to know as you navigate this slushy last day of 2021.

Weather

Though snow should keep up through the evening, we probably won’t see much more for the rest of the day as far as accumulation goes.

It’s looking like we’ll have a chilly New Year’s Day tomorrow with a bit of sun with a high of 22 degrees.

Rain and snow Wednesday and Thursday with highs around 40 degrees.

This week’s forecast from KSLWeather.com

Traffic

Most major freeways are snowy and slick

Crash in southern Utah County in Spanish Fork near mains street, slick conditions are likely to blame. Conditions clear up between Provo and Draper on I-15.

Even once the snow lets up, you’ll want to slow down and give yourself plenty of stopping distance.

Conditions in the canyons

Expect at least an hour delay getting into both Big and Little Cottonwood Canyon today.

If your travel plans involve Parley’s, be careful. The roads have been really dicey up the canyon this morning.

All those snow hounds out there are in for a treat. We’ve got plenty of fresh white stuff up in the mountains today, but be careful getting up there and stay tuned to KSL for the latest updates of traffic in the canyons.

Avalanche danger possible

Avalanche forecasters with the Utah Avalanche Center are very concerned about potential upcoming snow slides. They point to the feet of fresh powder in the slopes from the last few days of snow. Hurricane-force winds up in the Wasatch have made huge snow slabs that can trigger the avalanches. If you do choose to go into the backcountry, please know before you go.

Stay tuned to KSL NewsRadio for the latest updates on traffic and weather today.
