How will our latest snow storm impact the drought? 

SALT LAKE CITY —  A fresh layer of snow now tops Utah’s mountains after a winter storm brought wind, rain, and snow.

But it won’t make much of an impact on our drought, according to KSL Meterologist Kevin Eubank. 

“It’s not a lot of water,” Eubank said. “The truth is most areas in Davis County received a couple inches of snow. To a 3-4 at the peak.” 

But there is still a plus in the short term. 

“One of the best things that’s come from this is the drop in temperatures,” Eubank said.

That’s because it will likely help us hold on to the snowpack longer. 

“If we get really warm, really fast and we bring that down, that’s really not good,” Eubank said. “We want to prolong how much snow is up in those mountains. And then we want to bring it down in May. Not necessarily in April.” 

Eubank also said this week’s storms are normal for this time of year. But it might feel abnormal compared to the rest of the water year we’ve had.
