UINTAH COUNTY, Utah — Uintah County Emergency Management issued a wind advisory for Sunday evening and a wind warning for the majority of Monday.

According to a Facebook post published by the county, the advisory will be in effect until 9 p.m. Mountain daylight time. In addition to this, a high-wind warning will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. MDT on Monday, June 13.

Uintah County EM said it is expecting wind gusts up to 60 mph in the Eastern Uinta Basin in Utah and both the Lower Yampa River Basin and Central Yampa River Basin in Colorado. The wind warning applies to these areas as well.

The county said the winds may blow down trees and/or powerlines, leading to power outages.

How to react to a wind advisory/wind warning

The Facebook post advises a few things.

“People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches,” the post reads. “If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive.”

Uintah County EM also recommends those with respiratory illnesses, heart disease, the elderly and children stay inside due to wind-blown dust.
