Utah well-represented during international gymnastics competition

SALT LAKE CITY — Four Utah kids are back home after competing in tumbling at the 2022 T&T World Age Group Competitions last week. Competing in Sofia, Bulgaria, the kids represented both Utah and the U.S. on the gymnastics world stage.
The kids made it to the international competition by scoring high enough nationwide competitions across the U.S. Categories had only three or four athletes chosen from the whole country.
Hooper resident Britney Hansen has a 14-year-old daughter Annie, who competed in the floor event.
Hansen said that physical training isn’t all the athletes have to worry about. “It’s a big mental game,” she said.
For her daughter, Annie, prepping includes mental preparation too.
“She had to focus on the fun part of it and not the stress of getting a place. It doesn’t matter what place she gets, at this point she’s basically put in the hard work to get where she’s at.”
Hansen said she tried to help her calm her daughter’s nerves from across the world.
“We just always tell her ‘have fun, it is what it is, you’re there, you made the team.'”
Hansen’s daughter placed eighth in her tumbling event.
