SALT LAKE CITY– One of Utah’s oldest schools has its sights set on a new campus. Salt Lake City-based private school Rowland Hall is moving from their 100-year-old building in the 9th and 9th neighborhood.

The school will add on to the existing McCarthey campus, on Guardsman Way, to unite both parts of Rowland Hall by 2026. The campus for middle and high schoolers will join the existing elementary campus.

Head of School Mick Gee said this change supports future educational goals. Gee said the 100-year-old building is beautiful and revered, but no longer serves the purpose of their expanded educational vision.

“One of our plans is to leave that building and to develop a new building that is going to suit that educational vision for the next 20 to 50 years,” said Gee.

According to Gee, this new building will help Rowland Hall deliver more hands-on learning experiences.

“Although we do great teaching in there now… As we start to think about expanding the program and teaching in a different way, that facility is coming to the end of its life.”

The current building was built in 1921. Gee said the new building will give students opportunities to expand their knowledge in a new project-based way.

“If we were just going to keep teaching the same way for the next 50 years, we wouldn’t need a new building,” said Gee. “We have got we’ve got a new vision for education, we’ve got a new program we want to deliver.”
