Code Blue issued in Salt Lake County, emergency shelters available

SALT LAKE CITY — A Code Blue alert has been issued in Salt Lake County for the night of Jan. 10. As such, the Salt Lake City Council has released a list of extra emergency shelters available to those in need of warm shelter.

A Code Blue has been called for Salt Lake County for 1/10.

These emergency shelters are open tonight:

West Valley Overflow, 3381 S. Redwood Road, West Valley.
Open 3 p.m. – 10 a.m.
Accepts men and couples.

Per a new Utah law, a Code Blue alert is issued when the National Weather Service predicts outdoor temperatures will drop to 15 degrees Fahrenheit or lower, including wind chill.

According to a Salt Lake City Council post on X (formerly known as Twitter), emergency shelters are now available.

One of the shelters is the West Valley Overflow shelter located at 3381 S. Redwood Road. This shelter is open from 3 p.m. to 10 a.m. It accepts men and couples, according to the Salt Lake City Council.

A second shelter, Valley Behavioral Health, has also opened. It’s located at 1020 S. Main St. in Salt Lake City. It is open from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. and accepts all adults.
