EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah — Traffic through the city center of Eagle Mountain is going to get worse before it gets better.
The city is working to replace the roundabout at the intersection of Pony Express and Eagle Mountain Boulevard with traffic lights.
Tyler Maffitt with Eagle Mountain City said taxpayers won’t have to worry about the three million dollar bill.
“Eagle Mountain city will be reimbursed for that project cost,” Maffitt explained, “through the Mountainland Association of Governments in the year 2028.”
According to Maffitt, the city’s rapid growth prompted the change. Traffic could see more slow downs at the end of the month when they start using temporary signaling.
Maffitt noted that many people asked why they are doing construction during the day instead of at night.
Eagle Mountain crews to help with the project
“City crews are helping with this project, so it’s on city hours,” Maffitt said. “But because traffic is currently flowing through the intersection, largely unobstructed, it’s just a slightly slowed interruption while construction is ongoing. We didn’t really see a need to do it overnight.”
The main problems with the intersection occur during peak hours—in the morning and afternoon. According to Maffitt, ther project should be finished in mid to late-July.
