SALT LAKE CITY — The largest wildfire in Utah this year, the Monroe Canyon Fire, is now fully out.

The Monroe Canyon Fire in Sevier County is now 100% contained after burning more than 73,000 acres.

On Saturday, Incident Commander Brett Waters from Great Basin Complex Incident Management Team 3 announced on X that it was the crew’s final day on the fire.  

“Fifty-five days later, we are getting things pretty well accomplished up on the mountain,” Waters said.

Waters also expressed how he and his team are grateful for the wonderful people in the community treating them with grace and respect. 

“We just wanted to say thank you for all the support from the community and all the different agencies that have been involved in the Monroe Canyon Fire,” said Waters.

While the fire is now fully out, Waters urged people to still use caution. 

“Moving forward, Mother Nature is going to be in charge of the rains and the snow and what happens after that. So, please still be very cautious about the snags and the burned out trees as we move forward.”
