IRON COUNTY — Fresh off his tour of the fire, Governor Herbert told reporters the 1.5 mile long blaze was started when someone tried to burn their weeds with a blow torch.

“We the people have got to be more careful in how we conduct ourselves outdoors,” Herbert said. “We’ve got a long hot summer, and we need to make sure that we do our part to make sure we don’t start and cause fires.”

About 700 people are still evacuated from the town of Brian Head. So far one building has burned, but crews have saved the others.

“As you look to where that fire line is at, it’s nothing short of a miracle that we haven’t lost others,” Herbert said.

Two fire fighters have been hurt, both are expected to make a full recovery. Right now they have the blaze at about five percent contained.
