Slow speed chase begins as DUI stop, ends with arrest in Millcreek

SALT LAKE CITY — What began as a police response to a DUI accident in east Millcreek ended after a relatively slow speed chase and a foot chase through west Millcreek.

The Unified Police Department (UPD) said the slow-speed chase began at 1863 Murray Holladay Road around 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Officers had responded to a DUI accident, as had paramedics. UPD said that when they showed up, the driver, a man with a long list of felony warrants, left the scene in his vehicle. Police say a woman was with him in the car.

Information from police scanners indicated the chase never went above 20 miles per hour.  The suspect drove southbound on Highland Drive and at 4000 South he hit a UPD vehicle that was waiting for him, police said. The suspect spun out, and when another police vehicle attempted to pin the suspect’s car to a wall, that police vehicle was also hit

The pursuit continued to the area of 500 East and 4500 South, and though police say they thought they’d cornered the suspect in the parking lot of an apartment complex, he had fled through a fence.

UPD finally spiked the suspect’s tires at 500 East, and the suspect reportedly stopped the vehicle at 495 East and 4500 South. 

Then the suspect fled on foot, UPD said. But was soon apprehended, and arrested.
