San Juan County Sheriff’s urges public to ‘stay away’ from Westwater fire area

WESTWATER, San Juan County — A new fire started in the Westwater area Sunday, as the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office told the public to stay away.
An X post from the Utah Fire Info said the fire is estimated to be 6 acres long, while being within the Blanding City limits.

The sheriff’s office said that several fire departments responded to the brush fire, including Blanding Fire, State Fire, Forest Service Fire and Monticello Fire.
The sheriff’s office went to Facebook, telling the residents on Old Dump Road and west of 600 West to prepare for evacuation.
Officials with the sheriff’s office enforced that anyone who doesn’t stay away from the area will be charged.
The cause of the fire had not yet been determined.
