Will federal spending cuts affect Hill Air Force Base?

SALT LAKE CITY — Amid federal spending cuts, there is a question in the air whether or not these cuts will affect Hill Air Force Base.
Director for the Center of National Security Studies at Utah Valley University, Ryan Vogel said he does not think Hill will be heavily impacted.
“I would be very very surprised if Hill Air Force Base was on the chopping block because of the functions that they do up there.”
Vogel also said that Hill Air Force Base has a focal point that is strategic and critical that would lend to it being more protected. But he also admitted you never know how things are going to go.
“The exemptions that they’ve made … are [the] kinds of things that are a focal point at Hill Air Force Base, including the nuclear mission,” said Vogel.
Vogel just hopes any military cuts are actually for unnecessary expenses.
“It’s probably actually a helpful thing, it’s just making sure we make the right cut,” said Vogel.
In 2023 Hill Air Force Base had an economic impact of 11 billion dollars in Utah.
