SOUTH JORDAN, Utah — It’s been nearly a week since a vast amount of tumbleweeds blew into South Jordan. Now, the city is providing an update on the cleanup effort.
Most of the cleanup is completed, however a few tumbleweeds remain stacked up in gutters or on front porches.
“We had seven dumpsters out in those neighborhoods, but we took about 25 trips to the landfill,” said Rachael Van Cleave, Public Information Officer for South Jordan.
Van Cleave said the rest of the tumbleweed cleanup was then up to the homeowner’s association.
“We collaborated with our residents,” Van Cleave said. “Once we cleared the city’s right of ways and provided dumpsters for residents for them to clear in front of their houses, kind of everything that was left was in the HOA’s area, and they stepped up to help the residents.”
Van Cleave said the tumbleweed overload is one pitfall of surrounding wildlands. But for now, the worst of it is over.
“I think we’ve gotten through tumble-geddon 2024, and I hope we don’t hear any more about it for quite a while.”
