SALT LAKE CITY— Temperatures for the summer solstice (or first day of summer) are normally not cool, they’re in the mid-80s, but this year the high in Salt Lake City is ten degrees cooler.
KSL Meteorologist Matt Johnson said this is because of cold air that’s made its way in from Canada, which also helped bring rain to the valleys and even snow to mountain tops above 9,500 feet.
“Some of that cold air has lingered even though the showers are gone,” Johnson said.
Happy Solstice! The Summer Solstice is today at 8:57am MDT and it should be a beautiful day for it. We’ll see mostly clear to partly cloudy skies across the area with highs up to 10°F below seasonal normals. #utwx #wywx pic.twitter.com/f3MrJy7cNj

Cool summer temperatures are expected to quickly bounce back, however. On Thursday, highs are expected to return to normal in Salt Lake City.
And by Monday, temperatures could hit the 90’s.
