Full interlodge in effect for Alta and Snowbird ski area

ALTA, Utah — As of 2:30 p.m. on March 24th, Alta and Snowbird ski resorts were under full interlodge protocol.

Alta Ski Area was closed for the day. Interlodge had immediately gone into effect.

This means no one can enter or leave the ski area. Due to high snow levels and avalanche danger, patrons and employees are confined to resort buildings while avalanche work is being done.

Road access to the resorts was shut down. As UDOT worked to mitigate the situation, interlodge was in effect for four hours until the roads were cleared enough to provide safe travel. After the protocol was lifted, thousands of skiers and snowboarders had to make the journey back down the mountain.
