Industrial accident leaves man dead in Clearfield

CLEARFIELD, Utah – A work-related accident in Clearfield left one man dead early Wednesday morning.
According to Lt. Scott Manookin of the Clearfield Police Department, a call came in around 6:30 a.m. about an unconscious male. The call came from the Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company near 1100 South and 1000 West.
Medical personnel from the north Davis fire district and officers from the Clearfield Police Department were dispatched. Upon arrival, responders found other co-workers providing CPR to the man.
Lt. Manookin confirmed that a piece of equipment fell on a 27-year-old male.
“The victim, he suffered severe trauma to his head,” said Manookin. “The victim was transported by ambulance to the Holy Cross Hospital in Layton and he was in extremely critical condition and succumbed to his injuries a short time after arrival.”
Manookin said that the accident is under investigation but it appeared a piece of equipment that was suspended above the workstation fell on the victim.
“Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the OSHA officials have been notified due to this being a workplace incident,” Manookin said.
The victim is identified only as a 27-year-old male from Ogden until authorities can give proper notice to the family.
