SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City is updating all of its 270 parking pay stations.

Dave & Dujanovic cover this at 9:35. Tune in below👇

“Starting on Monday, the public will start noticing the new pay stations in downtown,” said Salt Lake City’s Director of Public Services Jorge Chamorro. “We are expecting that by mid-September all of the pay stations will have been replaced.”

Chamorro said this new tablet-based technology will allow people to pay for parking using coins, credit cards, Google and Apple Pay. They will also be able to pay through the ParkSLC Mobile App.

“These kiosks that are currently installed are more than a decade old and what we are bringing in is top-of-the-line technology which is a much [more user-friendly] experience when you are paying for your meter,” Chamorro said.

They will also feature a lot more language options for visitors to choose from, including English, Spanish, Mandarin and Vietnamese.

Overall, the project costs 1.2 million dollars. Chamorro said this is paid for through the city’s general fund, which is where payments for parking feed into. The cost for parking will not change at this time.

The parking pay stations will be installed in stages. Some parking spots may be unavailable for up to 48 hours while the new pay stations are installed.
