UPDATE: SLCPD investigating Thursday afternoon crash involving UTA bus

SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City Police are investigating a crash involving a UTA bus that caused a closure at the intersection of 300 W. and North Temple.
We are investigating a critical injury crash at 300 West North Temple. @slcfire has confirmed 1 person has critical injuries and 3 others have non-life-threatening injuries. Upon their arrival at the scene, police worked to secure the intersection and firefighters began treating those with injuries.
According to the press release, preliminary investigation shows that the driver of a Toyota Camry ran a red light while driving southbound on 300 W., causing it to crash into a UTA bus.
Following this, the bus crashed into two additional vehicles at a stop light on 300 W..
Witness statements led officers to initially believe that the driver of the Camry suffered a “medical episode,” right before the crash. Upon further investigation, the driver is now being investigated for impaired driving.
The crash resulted in four people being injured, according to the press release, including one driver being trapped inside their car with critical injuries. Those injured include the driver of the Camry, the bus driver and two passengers on the bus. The driver of the Camry is currently in the hospital in critical condition. Details on the other drivers are not available at this time.
Police have not issued citations or made arrests at this time.
