The staff at a Murray business office are worried about a pair of geese

A Murray business is worried about the geese that have taken up residence on a small window ledge outside their office.

MURRAY, Utah — There’s an awful lot of banging and honking outside the offices of a talent management agency in Murray — and it’s being credited to a pair of geese.

“It was the most unlikely space for a nest I think,” said Vickie Panek.

Panek says the pair of Canadian geese have been coming around Murray for a couple of years. But this time Lucy, as the female has become known, started laying eggs.

“They’re working with the spikes that the property manager put up to try to deter them which obviously hasn’t happened,” Panek said. “Instead, they have picked away the spikes, but right now it appears as though they’re using the spikes as a nest

The office staff is worried because there’s barely enough room on the second-story ledge for the two adult birds, let alone the four eggs Lucy has already laid — and they’re pretty sure she’s trying to lay another one.

“It appeared yesterday as though she was trying to lay another egg,” Panek said. “So we’ll probably see it today at some point, I guess and the girls have been looking online and they say they can have up to 10. I can’t imagine 10 eggs in that little space.”

Heidi Scott and her co-workers say the pair barely fit on the small ledge, so they don’t know what’s going to happen if all the eggs hatch.

“They have a hard time the two of them landing on that spot at the same time,” said Scott. “Yesterday they missed it and had to do another takeoff to get back up here. Lucy yesterday was on the edge of the building and she kept kind of slipping and was slipping off trying almost falling backwards and she was honking and flapping her wings.”

But they’re also worried the eggs won’t hatch because the steel plate where the eggs are resting gets hot in the afternoon.

“There are times the pair make an incredible amount of noise,” said Panek.

The Division of Wildlife Resources has told them they can’t relocate the geese until after hatching season.
