West Valley City dedicates building to fallen Officer Jill Robinson

WEST VALLEY CITY — West Valley City has officially renamed its Community Preservation Building in honor of Code Enforcement Officer Jill Robinson, whose life and service left a lasting impact on the community she served.

Robinson was tragically killed on August 9, 2018, while performing her code enforcement duties. Her death shocked the city and left a void in the department where she had worked for nearly a decade.

“Jill was tragically killed while carrying out code enforcement duties,” the city said in a statement. “Her decade of service to West Valley City stands as an example of unwavering dedication, and her legacy continues to inspire city staff and residents alike.”

Family and Community Remember

At the renaming ceremony, Robinson’s daughter, Jessica Knorr, shared emotional reflections on her mother’s kindness and enduring presence.

“She is remembered for her constant acts of kindness and for taking care of those around her,” Knorr said. “I wish she could be here with us now, especially with her grandkids, but I know she’s our guardian angel.”

City leaders, including Mayor Karen Lang and Chief Code Enforcement Officer Tumi Young, spoke about Robinson’s commitment and the deep personal loss felt by her colleagues.

“Behind every badge and every uniform is a person with family, friends and future,” Lang said.

“The building will serve as a reminder of who she was, what she stood for,” Young said. “Every time someone walks through these doors, they will step into a space that carries the warmth, dedication, and the spirit of Jill.”

Robinson served West Valley for about 10 years as a Code Enforcement Officer before she was killed. The building now holds a permanent reminder of her commitment to this city.
