This article is sponsored by the Soldier Hollow Classic. If you love dogs this is the place for you. Come to the world’s “foremost” sheepdog trial this Labor Day weekend at Soldier Hollow!
Do You Love Dogs?
Like really love dogs? No, like REALLY LOVE DOGS? If your answer was a resounding yes, the Soldier Hollow Classic was made just for you! The Soldier Hollow Class is the world’s “foremost” sheepdog trial. What is a sheepdog trial? Well, check the video out below:
Awesome right? These incredible dogs have been so well trained that they are able to multitask, making sure the sheep go where they want, but also taking commands from their master. So Here are 3 awesome reasons you’ll want to go to the Soldier Hollow Classic if you love dogs.
1. The K9 Celebration
During the Soldier Hollow Classic, take a moment to celebrate man’s best friend. The K9 Celebration is split into 2 different parts: The Wicked Fast Agility Course and the Splash Dogs.
The Wicked Fast Agility Course
The Wicked Fast Agility Course is where dogs run through an obstacle course off leash with no food or toys as incentives. Handler is not allowed to touch either the dog or the obstacles. Plus, commands are limited to voice, movement, and various body signals. This requires exceptional training to achieve, and the handler has to be able to perfectly coordinate with the dog. Kristin Sittner will have three different sessions. Be sure not to miss them!
The Splash Dogs competition pits owners and their dog from around the country to compete for the longest distance as the dogs dive into a 40 foot pool. This is just fun! You are even allowed to enter your dog into the competition here.

The Soldier Hollow Classic International Food Court is sponsored by Utah’s Lamb & Wool Producers. Soldier Hollow promises great food that promises to be way better than the usual selection of hot dogs and burgers found at most fairs. They even audition their food vendors and pick just a select few so that every meal served at the Soldier Hollow Classic is a little unusual and absolutely delicious. You’ll be able to choose from dozens of great entrees including Greek gyros, roast Greek lamb, Philly cheese steak sandwiches, Asian tacos & sliders, Mexican tacos and burritos, great fish & chips, western barbecue ribs, Hawaiian plates, Basque chorizo and short ribs, Canadian poutine and so much more! Every meal vendor will offer at least one kid’s meal for $5.00 or less. Although American lamb will be the featured meat of most meals , you’ll also find great beef, poultry, and even vegetarian entrees.
The Sheepdog Trial
These are the world’s most highly trained dogs. And they and their handlers test themselves on Soldier Hollow’s Olympic Hillside. With 400 yards between the dogs and their handler, the dogs have to be precise and gather wild range Rocky Mountain ewes. Then they have to bring them down the mountainside along an already set course. Then through free-standing gates. Now, keep in mind the sheep don’t want to be herded, so the dogs have to fight against them. Once the dogs have wrangled the sheep and brought them to the base of the course, the dogs actually have to separate sheep and place only specific ones into a small pen. Yeah, you read that right. The dogs actually do have those kinds of organizational skills. The dogs are judged on how well they do and how well they care for the sheep. They have to be gentle after all. And all that needs to be completed in just 13 minutes. Whew!
All This and More!
On top of all the excitement, how can you resist this face?
