Humane Society looking for stolen puppy

MURRAY — The Humane Society of Utah is looking for a woman accompanied by two young boys they believe snatched up a puppy named “Cookie” on Thursday.
Spokeswoman Deann Shepherd says it’s hard to believe someone would steal a puppy.
“We’re extremely concerned about the safety of this puppy. It is quite disconcerting that somebody would take a puppy from a nonprofit animal shelter, especially with their two children present. We want to make sure that Cookie is returned as soon as possible,” says Shepherd.
A news release from the society says they have surveillance footage showing a woman, described as about 5 feet 6 inches tall, leaving the dog kennel area with the animal in her handbag, white jacket over the top. They say the incident occurred sometime between 4:30 and 4:55 p.m.
The Humane Society describes the stolen dog as a 2-month-old black and tan Cairn Terrier. They say the female suspect is Hispanic, with long black hair and in her mid-30s.
Anyone with information is asked to call Murray police dispatch at 801-840-4000.
