KAYSVILLE – A Farmington man is booked for possible aggravated assault and aggravated kidnapping after he reportedly attacked a jogger in Kaysville at gunpoint.  Police documents say the suspect apparently confused his victim for someone else.

Police affidavits say the victim was jogging Monday night when she got the feeling that someone was following her.  The affidavit indicates the woman stopped by a church near 1650 South 500 East when the suspect, Byron Foster, pulled out a gun, demanded she move to the right, then “told her multiple times to stop selling drugs to kids.”

“She ended up yelling for help and trying to get away from this man,” according to Kaysville Police Officer Lexi Benson.

The affidavit states an off-duty police officer was able to get Foster on the ground until other officers could arrive.  After his arrest, Foster reportedly denied pointing a gun but acknowledged he had been drinking and thought the woman was a local drug dealer.

Foster was taken into custody and booked for investigation into aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault, but police say they need to find as much evidence as they can.

“If anyone heard or saw anything last night [Monday night], we would like to know.”

Benson says they’re still searching for two men, who aren’t considered suspects, but who may have been with Foster before the alleged attack.  Police have also been going door-to-door where the woman ran, hoping to find video of what happened.

“We’re just trying to get any video surveillance that we can along the route that the female had taken,” Benson said.

The police department is urging everyone to be extremely careful when they go out at night.  Benson says people need to travel with a friend when possible and to always have their cell phones with them.

“This is something that is not common in Kaysville, but we also always want people to be cautious.”
