SALT LAKE CITY, Utah– The COVID-19 vaccine for Utah educators could come a little later than anticipated. The Utah Department of Health (UDOH), is warning school districts the COVID-19 vaccine could be delayed. Utah educators anticipated having the COVID-19 vaccine before mid-January.

However, UDOH is starting to notify school districts the vaccine supply may not be here until late January. UDOH spokesman Tom Hudachko said, “we have never put a definite timeline on things. However, it is looking like [the vaccine will arrive] mid to late January, not mid-January.”

The school districts came up with their own initial timeline of when they would receive the COVID-19 vaccine. “It’s not necessarily that our timeline is changing, the issue is some school districts put forth their own timeline without confirming it with us,” said Hudachko.

Utah educators will receive the COVID-19 vaccine soon, according to Hudachko. “School districts can expect to see the vaccine by the third week of January,” reported Hudachko.

Health care workers have been the first to receive vaccinations. From there, the state’s plan has been to branch out to long-term care facilities, educators, then essential workers.
