U of U announces partnership with U.S. Air Force

SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah School of Engineering announced Friday a partnership with the U.S. Air Force. 

According to a news release, the partnership will give students valuable learning opportunities. It will also allow for research projects that can advance a variety of technologies from cybersecurity to wireless communications.

Partnership with U.S. Air Force 

The partnership was made official Friday during a signing ceremony.

Additionally, the partnership will also those associated with the university to work more closely with Air Force personnel. According to the news release, members of the Air Force will coordinate with the university in developing new educational programs. 

Air Force laboratory personnel will also be available to teach courses.

As part of the partnership, university researchers will have access to resources from the Air Force, such as state-of-the-art equipment and knowledge. 

“The U has faculty with expertise in areas that are of great interest to the Air Force,” said University of Utah School of Engineering Dean Richard Brown in a news release. “This educational partnership will help our faculty and Air Force researchers become better acquainted. Which will lead to more joint research. We also want their people to be more involved with our students. The partnership will be mutually beneficial.”

The agreement is expected to last five years.

“In addition to deepening our relationship with the U. of U. through mentoring, internships, and collaboration on defense laboratory projects,” said Brig. Gen. Richard Gibbs in a news release. “This is a great opportunity for the Air Force to find ways to transform our operations to better and more efficiently sustain our weapons systems and components in support of national defense.”
