New development could be coming to Union Station in Ogden

OGDEN, Utah — A new 30-acre development could be coming to Ogden with the historic Union Station as the center point. It could potentially become a new commercial hub with shops, restaurants and apartments.
Charles Trentelman, with the Weber Heritage Foundation, tells KSL NewsRadio that the project is receiving mixed reviews.
He says some local businesses are worried about national chains moving in and taking their business. Others are concerned that the historic integrity of the Union Station will be lost.
However, Trentelman says that part of the city needs some improvements.
“It’s all a very old area that desperately needs something done to it,” he said.
He also says it’s time for a new museum.
“It’s really not a good space for a museum,” he said. “And they are talking about a new museum that has a lot of that stuff, which I would love to see.”
Trentelman says there are discussions about modeling the project around a similar development that Denver did with its Union Station. That development brought in new businesses, restaurants and apartments.
City officials say they will accept public comment before beginning the project.
