SALT LAKE CITY — A new e-bike voucher program offered to Salt Lake County residents helps them switch from four wheels to two.

The Utah Clean Air Partnership and Magnum Bikes are providing vouchers to the first 1,000 applicants.

The big benefit behind e-bikes is reducing pollution from commuters. Additionally, bikers can count on saving some money by skipping trips to the gas pump.

Each voucher is worth as much as $1,400, depending on the model and the applicant’s income.

How it works

The voucher program is first come, first serve and will allow applicants to get a motor-powered bicycle from Magnum Bikes.

Kim Frost from the Utah Clean Air Partnership said this is a no-brainer considering the agency’s goal.

“Our goal is really to just get cars off the road and we want people taking active transportation which is either walking or biking, and e-bikes gives people kind of a more accessible way to get around.”

UCAIR’s website also details the types of e-bikes available and which is best for your personal lifestyle.

“But more than anything we’re just hoping for the start of this cultural shift where we’re getting out and we’re taking alternative transportation whether it be e-bikes or public transportation,” said Frost.

To apply for the voucher visit ucair.org/ebike to fill out an application.
