ST. GEORGE, Utah — The second renovation on the St. George Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints began in November 2019.
With the project now completed, a public tour of the temple will begin on Friday, Sept. 15. It will run through Saturday, Nov. 11, with the exceptions of Sundays and Saturday, Sept. 30 for general conference.
According to Andy Kirby, director of the church’s historic temple renovations, the improvements made on the St. George Utah Temple include an all-new heating, air conditioning, and cooling system. He also says LED lighting has been implemented throughout the temple.
“I think the pioneers who built this would be pleased with our work,” said Kirby in a news release. “They would be satisfied that we preserved their efforts and the beauty and the intent of their work.”
The tours are free to the public, and reservations can be made online. The tours will run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Invited guests will tour the temple this week.
The temple will then be rededicated on Sunday, Dec. 10, in two sessions.
The first renovation of the temple occurred in the 1970s. Then, President Spencer W. Kimball rededicated the temple in 1975.
The most recent renovation was announced by President Russell M. Nelson in October 2018.
Bonneville International Corporation, the company that owns KSL NewsRadio, is a subsidiary of Deseret Management Corporation, which is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
