SALT LAKE CITY — Utah avalanche conditions are getting worse with Friday’s new snowfall and anyone heading to the mountains this weekend should check the forecast before heading out.
Utah Avalanche Center Forecaster Craig Gordon said the new snow on top of the rough snowpack poses a moderate risk for avalanches today.
“Before even heading out on the snow, whether you’re skiing, boarding, riding, snowmobiling — even extreme snow-angeling — you definitely want to be armed with the latest avalanche forecast,” Gordon advised.
Our current snowpack conditions will make things tricky, so Gordon recommends before you head out, check out the Utah Avalanche Center website.
“Folks can definitely enjoy the ‘Greatest Snow on Earth’ but be aware, backcountry avalanche conditions will be changing. So we might want to start to think about pumping the breaks on some of our objectives.”
