BOULDER, Mont. — A Sunday morning crash on I-90 in Montana took the life of a woman from Salt Lake City.

The Butte District of the Montana Highway Patrol confirmed that Katie C. Montgomery, age 26, of Salt Lake City, was involved in the crash on westbound I-90 on Cardwell Hill, between the Montana cities of Three Forks and Cardwell.

According to a GoFundMe account set up to help with funeral expenses, Montgomery was traveling back to Utah with her 7-year-old daughter Rosie and some friends after a trip to Montana.

The GoFundMe account states Rosie received scrapes and bruises from the accident.

According to a press release, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was among the agencies that responded to the multiple-vehicle crash on Sunday, Jan. 8.

According to KBZK, a jackknifed semi began a chain-reaction crash that eventually involved 12 vehicles.

Sheriff Tom Grimsrud said that air ambulances were requested at the scene of the crash, but that weather conditions prevented them from assisting.

KBZK reported that four others were injured in the crash.
