TOOELE, Utah — It’s been a project years in the making, and in that time, improvements to the Tooele Valley Airport in Erda, Utah, have gone through several stages including public meetings.
Now, the Salt Lake Department of Airports is finalizing its plans, and letting the public in on its decisions. A master plan will be unveiled Thursday night at the Tooele City Police Department.
There’s a lot to do at Tooele Valley Airport
Currently, the airport doesn’t even have basic utilities. Still, the Salt Lake Department of Airports wants more people to start using the Tooele Valley Airport because all the airports in the area work together.
“Anything we can do to free up airspace and take some of those general aviation uses and spread them out into Tooele, it frees up airspace capacity and flights for Salt Lake International,” said Brady Fredrickson, Director of Planning for The Salt Lake City Department of Airports.
Fredrickson is excited about what this major project will bring to the area.
“Hangar facilities to store your aircraft, additional fuel, and then an upgraded system to the utilities,” said Fredrickson, “new maintenance facilities go out there, a new entrance into the airport, and a road that connects to the freeway system to the north.

Those are just a few of the additions. The rest are listed on the master plan put together by The Salt Lake City Department of Airports. Some of the additions will be completed soon, others will be done over the next two decades. And one thing is for sure.
“No taxpayer money is funding any of this,” Fredrickson said. Instead, the Tooele Valley Airport will fund the project alon wit Salt Lake International Airport and airport improvement grants from the FAA.
