SALT LAKE CITY — SLC Pride, a local organization working to support the LGBTQ community in Utah, will host a Pride Festival during Pride Month.
On its website, SLC Pride said they are “working to build a local pride festival.” The goal, according to Bonnie O’Brien, the director of the event, is to make sure that everyone feels welcome.
“We’re simply focusing on local groups that in the past have maybe been unable to afford a booth. They’ve taken larger more nationally known entertainers and put them on the festival stage,” said O’Brien.
The SLC Pride Festival will be the last event of Pride Month. According to O’Brien, admission will be free to anyone under 18. If you are over 18, the admission cost is $5.
Additionally, O’Brien said that organizers kept the admission price low to ensure that anybody who wishes to may attend.
The organization’s website said there will be events leading up to the festival.
The Pride Parade occurs a few weeks before the SLC Pride Festival. It kicks off on June 1, per the Utah Pride website.
Vendors and entertainers, want to participate?
“[We’re] focusing solely on local artists local vendors local entertainment and bands and drag queens and really just trying to bring in all of [the] smaller organizations that sort of just slip through the cracks,” said O’Brien.
If you are a vendor or entertainer and want to get involved, participation deadlines are quickly approaching.
Entertainers need to submit applications by March 24. Vendors have until April 1.
