SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints reported growth of nearly 1.5% last year, according to statistics released by the First Presidency during the faith’s 194th Annual General Conference on Sunday.

Church growth bolstered by new converts

In the 2023 statistical report, church leaders said new converts made up about a quarter-million of the new members added last year.

According to the report, just over 93,000 children contributed to the 2023 growth of the church. Primary General President Susan H. Porter spoke directly to children in her Sunday morning talk at General Conference.

“Our Heavenly Father loves you,” she said. “You are his child. He knows you. He wants to bless you. I pray with all my heart that you will feel his love.”

All told, the faith reported a total worldwide membership of 17,255,394 as of December 31.

More temples, more meetinghouses

Another highlight for the weekend was the accessibility to Latter-day Saints facilities, temples, and meetinghouses. As of December 2023, the faith reports 31,490 wards and branches worldwide, supporting the growth of church membership. With a total of 335 temples either currently in operation, under renovation, in the process of construction, or announced, Latter-day Saints worldwide can enjoy better access to temple ordinances than ever before.
