BRIGHAM CITY, Utah — The man accused of killing Dylan Rounds has pleaded guilty to murder.
Rounds disappeared in April of 2022. His remains were found in Box Elder County about a month ago.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Box Elder County Attorney’s office said James Brenner pleaded guilty to second-degree felony murder.
The charge was reduced from first-degree aggravated murder. According to the county attorney’s office, prosecutors worked closely with Rounds’ family on the plea deal.
Part of the plea is an agreement that prison time is mandatory. The other part was that Brenner revealed the location of Rounds’ body.
Brenner is expected to be sentenced on July 1.
Rounds’ mother reacted to the plea, posting in a Facebook group dedicated to her son that she thinks it’s unfair that Brenner will serve a longer sentence for gun-related charges than he will for murder.
