SALT LAKE CITY — Fire crews were busy Monday morning. Multiple agencies responded to structure fires in northern Utah.

Crews responded to a house fire Monday morning

On Monday, Jan. 3, officials from Salt Lake City Fire Department were dispatched to 321 E 2100 S. A single story home engulfed in flames had smoke billowing out of it and up into the sky.

Around 3 in the morning, the department reported that they contained the fire. The house was vacant at the time of the fire. As such, no one was injured.

Just a few hours before the dispatch to the house fire, another fire department received a call about a pizzeria in Sunset.

Sunset pizzeria caught fire after closing

Around 11:30 p.m. Sunday night, crews were informed of a fire at the Circle Inn Pizzeria on Main Street.

The first crews arrived to find heavy smoke pouring from the building. It wasn’t long before flames could be seen coming from the roof at the front of the structure.

A second alarm sounded bringing additional crews and equipment to the scene. Firefighters from several agencies including Roy and North Davis worked to contain the flames and minimize damage. However, the fire completely destroyed the roof of the building.

Officials worked well into the night on the fire and into the morning on the resulting damage.

North Davis Fire Chief Mark Becraft said crews saved the furniture store next door. Although, freezing weather conditions made the fire fight more difficult, causing water hoses to malfunction.

Chief Becraft said the damages to the pizzeria are estimated to be around $2 million.

The comments on a Facebook post made by Roy City Fire & Rescue attest to the restaurant’s popularity. Center Inn Pizzeria was well loved by the community.

The Circle Inn Pizzeria is located near 2300 N. Main Street in Sunset. The fire resulted in a temporary closure of Main St. between 1800 and 2300.

Around 8:30 a.m., one lane in each direction in the affected area on Main St. opened to traffic. Crews remained at the scene, cautious of the building’s potential collapse.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and no injuries were reported.
