SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City Police say a 33-year-old man is in custody after they say he crashed a stolen vehicle Tuesday afternoon, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries of a 9-year-old child.

Police say officers with the Liberty Bike Squad discovered a stolen vehicle in the area of Andrew Avenue and West Temple just after 3 p.m.

Officers watched the vehicle and eventually saw a man and a woman get inside the green-colored vehicle. The officers attempted to block the driver from leaving. However, police say the driver was able to maneuver around the officers on bikes and left the scene.

A short time later, patrol officers witnessed a crash involving the stolen green vehicle. Police say it collided with a white vehicle at the intersection of 2100 South and West Temple.

Paramedics transported a 9-year-old child from the white car to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Police say witnesses saw the man and woman in the crashed stolen vehicle flee from the scene.

Police also say the woman was taken into custody near the crash site. The man was taken into custody near 2100 South and Utopia Avenue.
