SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake Climbers Alliance is seeking help after thousands of dollars of its equipment was stolen from a storage unit in the last few weeks.

Details about the equipment stolen

The gear stolen turned out to be some tools they need to maintain climbing areas across the Wasatch Front.

“We have a mission to steward outdoor climbing areas,” said Executive Director Julia Geisler. “In doing so, we replace fixed anchors, which are used for climbing, in the wall. We have specific tools, like drills, generators, climbing gears… tools that we use to take anchors out of the wall and put them back in.”

Geisler says this gear has taken a long time for the non-profit to accumulate. She says they’ve been able to recover some equipment after someone sent them a post from KSL Classifieds.

“If you find posts that look like it might be ours — it could be marked with ‘SLCA’ or ‘Salt Lake Climbers Alliance’,” said Geisler, “we just ask that you send the post to anchors@saltlakeclimbers.org so we can get it to the police investigators to try and get our stuff back.”

The equipment will have SLCA on a sticker or its acronym written in permanent marker.

They also had some equipment stolen that they use to put on events, like the alliance’s upcoming climbing fest

Upcoming climbing fest

This weekend marks the alliance’s ninth annual Salt Lake Climbing Fest. It’s the alliance’s largest fundraiser of the year.

“This is a weekend of skills-based climbing clinics that we partner with our guide outfitters services on to increase our climbing knowledge on the rock,” said Geisler.
