SALT LAKE CITY — Lagoon Amusement Park is introducing a new interactive rollercoaster coming in spring 2023, but with the ride comes higher pass prices.

Lagoon announced the price hikes this week. The single-day price has risen from $85.95 to $97.95, up nearly 14%.

Season passes on the park’s Black Friday special are selling for $160.95 — $47 below the regular price of $207.95. The season passport sale ends Nov. 30.

Lagoon announces new rollercoaster ‘Primordial”

Primordial will be a “one-of-a-kind interactive coaster” with a “ride experience like you have never seen,” Lagoon said on social media.

Lagoon spokesman Adam Leishman said Primordial is a rollercoaster “unlike any other on Earth. I know everything about it, and it’s going to be pretty wild.”

Leishman joined KSL NewsRadio’s Dave and Dujanovic with Dave Noriega and Debbie Dujanovic to discuss the ticket price increase but also Primordial.

“What’s the reason behind the price hike?” Debbie asked.

“Well, it’s simple and shouldn’t come as a surprise, but the cost for supplies, labor and everything has just gone up,” Leishman said. “Lagoon is one of the last independent, locally-owned amusement parks in the country, and we’ve got to have funding to keep going.”

Leishman said Lagoon has been working on the Primordial coaster for the past seven years.

“One thing Lagoon does that I don’t know that any other park in the world does is we manufacture our own rides,” he said.

Leishman added Lagoon custom-built the ride Cannibal, featuring a 208-foot drop.

“It’s one of a kind. It’s not off-the-shelf in anyway. There’s not another one in the world. And primordial is the same thing,” he said. “There are a lot of surprises for guests.”

“Are you afraid, though, that as you creep toward $100 for a day pass, this is going to price families out?” Dave asked.

“I hope not. I think, honestly, the season pass at $160 is really the best deal out there. You come twice and it’s paid for,” Leishman said.

Lagoon is scheduled to reopen on April 1, 2023.
