SALT LAKE CITY — With the large amount of snow in Utah’s mountains, skiers by the numbers are trying to get to the ski resorts to take in all that fresh powder.

The Utah Transit Authority has a new schedule this year that may throw a curveball into the plans of those skiers. In other words, if you plan to use UTA this winter to get to the ski resorts, you better plan ahead.

“It’s a little bit different this year,” said UTA spokesman Carl Arky. “Because we did drop one route. We’ve had some service adjustments because we simply don’t have enough bus operators to offer the kind of service that we’ve had in the past.”

Despite fewer buses available, Arky says UTA’s service to the ski resorts is not ending.

“So, the buses aren’t coming quite as often,” he said. “But they are coming throughout the day. We haven’t discontinued service.”

Arky says this will require skiers and other visitors to the resort to adjusting their schedules.

“People have to be aware that we don’t go with the same frequency that we used to go,” he said. “So, the buses are a little more crowded, in fact, a lot more crowded. And so, you have to plan accordingly.”

Arky suggests that scheduling a trip to a resort that is not the peak time in the morning.

“I know everybody wants to get up there and get to the fresh powder right away,” he said. “And stay as long as they can.”

He also suggests planning your trip to the resort a little differently.

“Maybe you catch the bus where the bus route originates instead of at the mouth of the canyon,” he said.

Arky says the UTA website can help coordinate bus time and schedules for all those visiting the resorts.
