UTAH COUNTY, Utah — The Utah County Search and Rescue team was deployed to back side of Alta Ski Resort on Thursday after a 21-year-old man fell roughly 100 feet.

Sgt. Cam Roden, of the Utah Highway Patrol, said the fall happened around Devil’s Castle near Snowbird.

With the assistance of Life Flight, search and rescue crews were able to get the man off the mountain.

The extent of the victim’s injuries is not known.

However, Sgt. Spencer Cannon, of the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, told KSL TV the victim was in and out of consciousness.

Cannon said the man was climbing with one other person when he fell more than 10 stories off of Devil’s Canyon formation.

“He fell and sustained [a] fairly severe head injury, and there was a lot of bleeding,” said Cannon.

According to Cannon, the main major concern was getting rescuers there since the road up to his location was closed.

However, Life Flight was able to lift him off the mountain and take him to Tibble Fork Reservoir. From there, an ambulance took the victim to the hospital.

Cannon believed this was a good sign.

“They took him by ambulance instead of by helicopter, gives you hope that it’s not going to be too serious and it’ll be able to recover.”

We want to hear from you.
